Volunteering

We are very proud to say that Seaclose Swimming Club always has, and continues to be run wholly by a team of dedicated volunteers.

Across the club there are a range of volunteers roles required. Not all are directly swimming related or need people to be on poolside or on the club committee so there are plenty of things you can do to help the club.

Regular roles

We are always looking for more people to assist with some of the core roles of the club. For each of these the club will pay for all training and qualifications in return for offering time back to the club in a volunteering role. If you are interested in any of these please contact the chairman to let him know.

Pool helpers

Pool helpers have to be a minimum of 14 years old. Pool helpers assist in levels 1-3 of lessons being in the water, supporting the teacher to deliver lessons to our young, and less experienced lessons swimmers. This is a great opportunity to get into volunteering.

Lifeguards

Lifeguards are a key part of the club and one of the main reasons we can keep our costs low by supplying our own lifeguards for sessions. The lifeguard qualification is taken every two years and can be taken by anyone over the age of 16. Many of our lifeguards go on to get paid employment either on the Island or when moving elsewhere. Parents and swimmers are encouraged to be a lifeguard. If you are interested in this please get in contact and we can advise when the next course is available.

Teachers

The other really essential role in the club are our swimming teachers. We train all our teachers in STA or ASA swim teaching with the course being fully paid for. The minimum age to teach is 16. Again many of our teachers also take paid jobs as well as volunteering for the club. Contact us if you are interested in training to  be a swim teacher through the club.

As well as those above there are a number of other roles required for the club to run successfully, from club secretary or treasurer to fixtures and event secretary. We would welcome any support in volunteering but specific vacant roles are noted below.

Current vacant roles

  • Treasurer
    • The treasurer monitors and manages the finances of the swimming club. The treasurer checks the relevant fees and subscriptions are being received as well as assisting in making sure any outstanding bills are paid. The treasurer (with support from others) prepares the accounts for the end of the financial year.
  • Fixtures Secretary
    • The swim club attends a number of swim galas through the year. The fixtures secretary role helps coordinate these events, arranging ferries if required and assisting the coaches in the organising of the teams.

Contact the chairman (chairman@seaclosesc.co.uk) if you are interested in knowing more about these roles.
